Are my credits too old to transfer?
#1
I have tons of credit from many different sources. Does anyone know if there is a time limit for any of the Big Three, before they say "Those credits are too old, we will not take them"? I have:

-AP English & Bio from 1990
-About 100 credits from SUNY Fredonia in gen ed, music, and English Literature (1990-1994)
-AAS in Comp. Sci. from CCAF (graduated 1999)
-A boat load of CLEP and DANTES/DSST passed exams from when I was in the USAF (1997-1999)
-a handful of comp sci credits from Troy State in Alabama (1994)
-AAS in Vet. Tech. from Joliet Junior College (graduated in 2006)
-about 9 credits in accounting classes from Oakton Community college (2008/2009)

I will start the process of getting transcripts, so I can figure out a way to finally get my degree. I have my own business, so the degree is more for my ego than any sort of employment prospect. Going to keep reading about the progress everyone has made toward their degrees! It's impressive! I hope my son takes a similar path when he is old enough, (we homeschool).

Thanks for any advice you can give me!

You should be fine, science courses are sometimes denied due to age, but unless you're looking for a nursing degree or something those are likely fine too.
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Definitely not nursing! I sort of don't care what the degree is in; I just want it done. Smile

TESC took mine from 1993-94, so I'm guessing they might take most of yours. You could at least send the transcripts and see what they say Smile

Mine are from as far back as 1988 and they took them. I don't think credits are ever too old! My mom has credits from 1969 that she transferred to a school with no issues at all.

The only thing that is an issue is the number of 10+ year old credits you can have in your area of study. The max is 10, so I have 3 courses from 10+ years ago in there, they won't let me use any more in that section even though I have a class which fits (which is also 10+ years old). If I had space, they would have stuck it up in GenEd (it's Human Relations Applied in Business, and which they classified as PSY-260), but I have that area full already.

But all of my old courses in GenEd, Business Core, and Business Electives count just fine.

This is good to hear. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my transcripts, so I can see where I stand.

Also, I don't think that the 10-year rule applies to many of the majors. It applies to technical stuff like computers, science and business, but it doesn't in liberal arts - American Government, US History, Western Civ, Intro to Psychology, Spanish - none have changed much in the last 20 years.

So if your degree is in Business, you may have some issues, but if it's in something else, you may be golden!

I got you all beat - mine were early 70's. Yes, I'm THAT old.

MS - Management and Leadership, WGU 2022
BS - Liberal Arts - Depths in Healthcare and Psychology, Excelsior College 2014
Certificate - Workers Comp Admin, UC Davis Extension, 1995
AA - Licensed Vocational Nursing and Selected Studies, Mesa College 1989
Certificate - Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN), Mesa College 1977

Also, someday maybe a MS in Forensic Psychology, just for fun.   Oh, and a BS in Animal Behavior.  And, maybe when I'm 85 a PhD in something fun.

"a handful of comp sci credits from Troy State in Alabama (1994)"

would be surprised if those are accepted

The only thing that makes me nervous are your CLEP exams. Not that TESC wouldn't accept them, but after the 20 year mark you may not have access to official transcripts - meaning TESC couldn't evaluate them. If 1997 is the correct date, you should have until 2017 to access those transcripts. No better time than the present! Smile
