Hi All...
I would greatly appreciate any/all info regarding experiences with ProctorU. I'm in the process of preparing for Torah (now Tor) College's HIS-301 exam and am torn between trying ProctorU versus testing at my local CC. From the searches I've done, it sounds like I'd need to purchase a dedicated ProctorU computer for identity/safety purposes - this seems like a big expense for what will probably be my one and only Torah course.
Due to weather issues in my area I originally planned on testing at my CC, but in theory, ProctorU still sounds like a quicker, easier way to go. I especially like that I can sign up and take my exam at home without the hassle of mailing paper exams back and forth.
Would love to hear from any recent ProctorU users - postives/negatives...is it worth it?
Thanks so much... eeya:

I've had no issues with Proctoru. I don't feel the need to have a second computer for it. I have read the same posts you have from previous posters, and I must say I believe their experience was the exception and not the rule.
I like the convenience offered by being able to test whenever I want. Hands down I prefer proctor-u over my local testing center.

I have used Proctor U for 3 exams. At fist I wasn't too sure about it, it seemed strange but I enjoy it and will continue to use it. I love the convenience of scheduling exams and the convenience of being able to reschedule exams. I have used it for TECEPs and other credit by exam. I have found it easy to use. I just use my laptop with microphone/webcam and haven't had any problems. Sometimes they require a mirror or reflective surface to see your computer. I did not know that until 10 min. before my exam. I used a compass with mirror though it says you can also use a CD, as long as they can see the edges of the screen I guess. They'll ask to see your ID, then they'll want to see the room and work space, they'll check your screen with the reflective surface, they'll ask identity verification questions. They do take control of the computer briefly but I have not had any problems. Some exams will give you immediate feedback with your score and the official score may process quicker. The exams I have taken were multiple choice and the official results were processed within a day or two.

I've used ProctorU a few times and had no issues. It is a bit awkward to have someone watch you through your webcam but once you get going, you're just going to be looking down the whole time anyway. It's not my preferred method of taking tests (I prefer taking them in a formal testing facility) but I'm glad the service exists.

Like others here I have used them and had no problems at all. I do everything on a laptop and not a designated computer. Try it and see how it goes.

I've used ProctorU for about 20 exams. I love it, it's very convenient. Most of the time I pay the $8.75 for the last minute scheduling because I prefer to decide at the last minute if I'm feeling up to writing. I've had no big problems, a couple of times the proctors were slow to get things set up but nothing major. I restart my computer just to make sure everything is fully disconnected after the exam. I was considering doing a full reformat and reinstall of my operating system once my degree was complete but I don't think I'll bother, I don't see anything running that shouldn't be.

I have used ProctorU for many SL courses and Sophia courses and never had a problem at all. They get things going pretty fast, and the experience has been the same each time because they have a standard format for the proctor to follow.

I've used it a few times, for TESC course tests and one UExcel. Never had any problems.

As always, thank you Everyone for all the informative and helpful answers! In light of everything I've heard here I'm going to give ProctorU a try - I have a little 11.6 inch ASUS notebook I use for portable studying, so I think I'll utilize it for the exam.
Family issues (my mother had a bad fall a few nights ago) put a hold on my exam prep, but knowing I won't have to leave home when I'm finally ready to test will be a tremendous help...
Again, thanks so much for sharing all your ProctorU experiences. eeya:
