Applying to TESC
#11
.....just be aware that it WILL take longer than you estimate at TESC to do ANYTHING. As long as you plan ahead, and allow yourself a 3 month +/- cushion, all should be well. I had NO problem at all with TESC other than the length of time necessary to _________ (fill in the blank).

I hope this helps. Greg

Quote:I'm afraid I don't have any new advice, but wanted to say thanks for posting your plan. I'm looking at something similar and I really like how you wrote it out for your spreadsheet. I must confess of copying and pasting and then redoing it to fit my tests/courses taken. I hope that's okay.

BTW, why did you choose TESC instead of the other 2 mentioned here? Still trying to decide which way to go.

Hi Margo,

No problem whatsoever. I probably got the spreadsheet idea from someone else who posted before me. I would say the number one reason that I am choosing TESC is because they treat any course number over 200 as upper level credits. It will certainly help in testing out of a degree. I suppose that I am willing to overlook TESC's slowness in light of this. I had also considered pursuing a MA in Liberal Arts from TESC and figured since I could test out of everything and then enroll I could use the one year of tuition to complete nearly all of the MA degree. I may have cooled on that idea though at this time.

Greg,

Thanks for that information. I don't think that I am under any constraints to finish within a certain time period but I am glad to hear that you had NO problem with TESC. I think I am willing to put up with the time aspects as long as I don't encounter any problems.

Thanks again,
-Jeff

Yes, that does make it more tempting for me. I would like to totally test out of my degree, something that TESC could make a reality for me. The only thing is my son, Ruddigore, will most likely use EC (for their GRE allowances), and it would be kinda cool to graduate with him! Although, I can't see that we would travel to, where is it, New York? We've never been east of Michigan!

I agree that you should enroll and submit coursework to TESC at least 3-4 months before the graduation date. They require applying for graduation 2 months before, plus at least 4 weeks, usually 6-7 weeks in my experience, to update transcripts.
I had all my coursework in by this past June and will graduate with a BA in History in September.
I read here somewhere that TESC was like a "stubborn mule" that needed constant prodding and pushing. In areas of communication I would agree with that assessment, but overall TESC fulfilled my expectations and I am graduating on time.
Best of luck!

Thank you all for your help with this. You answered my questions exactly (and I didn't now I had those questions!). Really, I love that you can use 200 credits for upper level AND I can deal with making sure there is a 3-4 month cushion. Yes, I'm gonna look at their catalog a bit more. Wink

I took my first DSST a week ago. I'm enrolled at the Center for Distance Learning at Empire State SUNY, and had the results sent there. They told me, at the local community college where I took the test, that I had to give them a code for the institution I wanted results sent to, or I would not be able to take the test. (I found this out because I'd neglected to bring the code with me, and had to phone Empire State to get it.)

Now that I've discovered IC I am almost certain I want to switch to TESC. But I want to take at least two more tests over the next few weeks, and many over the next couple of months, and enrollment at TESC takes time. So what do I do as far as having the test results sent before I am actually enrolled? Or for that matter, as per this thread, maybe I'll hold off enrolling at TESC until I am 6 months away from having enough credits to graduate. Which leads to the same question, where do I have the testing center send the credits??
Thanks!
