Anyone used CLEP for Biology?

JohnnyHeck Wrote:As always thanks Sanantone. These detailed insights is what makes our interchanges so useful. I wish there were flashcards for this subject too! My gut tells me that if your algebra is strong and you had the flashcards you could make it. By all accounts that I have run across the CHEM CLEP is the hardest. I'm going to try the ALEKS Chem module as my approach to the CLEP. The "problem" with ALEKS is that it really teaches you the material and not the test. I don't think I'm just "ticket punching" here since I will need to repeat the course with labs some time in the future for PA grad school. But I do need to get that BSAST first.

I heard the Chemistry and Calculus CLEPs are the hardest.

I've taken and passed the Biology CLEP with a 65. I dislike Biology, but the test is very doable with the right amount of study. Keep in mind that the Peterson tests are harder then the real thing and that the REA are slightly easier.

I love this forum!! I am studying for the Biology CLEP even though I don't intend to take it. The job I hope to get is Biochemistry, I have the chemistry down for the most part but my Bio is really weak. So I hope to teach myself the basics in the areas I need so if I get the job I don't sound like an idiot. I didn't want to spend more money for the IC flashcards and specific exam feedback because I am not sure I have the job.

So for the 1st time in my 6 years on this forum I had to look for help to study without paying. This thread has given me all I need for now. Thanks guys; shows you even after 6 years and over 1800 post this forum still gives back.

If you go to your library they should have an AP Bio book. Bio is so huge that you really need to take your time. Avoid rushing it and enjoy the content if you can.
Also do check out khan academy videos.

It was the first clep I took. This test is a beast. I recommend flash cards as there is a lot of terminology. There is a good set for Kindle. Also the Petersons tests really are useful here. Just study a lot. give yourself time and don't cram. Know your parts of the body, body systems, and plenty about cells and cell reproduction.

I'm currently studying for this and I haven't learned approximately half of the material that the flashcards are quizzing me on. You're not alone when it comes to being nervous. I'm only going to be a freshman and I don't know if I'll be able to pass the CLEP. If I do, WOOHOO!

I just took the Biology CLEP today. I scored a 68, which really surprised me. I used the REA book and practice tests, along with IC flash cards. I studied for a total of 30-40 hours over a 2 week period. I am so happy I passed. When it was time to submit the test, I was so nervous that I had failed because this test is harder than the REA tests, and the REA only covers 85% of what is on the actual test. What a nice surprise a 68 was!!!

I am not a science person, but I did have biology, micro-biology, macro-biology, and zoology 4-7 years ago in high school. I think this helped me out a lot. I am also a hunter, and do a little farming and this helped me out a lot with the plants and animals part of the test.

Hi Folks,

I know it's a bit late for a lot of you, but some posts here mentioned wishing there were Biology and Chemistry CLEP-exam-specific flash cards. If you are looking for that you might try getting either or both here:

CLEP Test Flashcards with CLEP Practice Questions

The company that sells the flash cards also gives you extra free goodies with them (like a guide for how to study, a practice exam, etc.). I used their products for some of the exams, but really didn't have time to use their flash cards. I mainly bought them to get access to the practice exams. Once one of the practice exams didn't work (they were updating it on their server or something). I didn't have access to it before taking the exam (when I needed it), so I sent that package of flashcards back to them and they refunded me the entire cost of them. They were great about that.

I also have some quiz questions from the Education Portal Biology course I just passed if anyone is interested. I tried to post it here, but it's huge! If you want a copy please feel free to PM me and I'll do my best to get it to you. If anyone finds any of this useful please let me know.

Many thanks,
