I am thinking about taking the Biology CLEP next Tuesday (or Thursday if necessary). But I am VERY nervous because some of the practice tests I have done seem foreign. Most of them I recognize, but I just wanted to know if anyone has had success with the test and can offer any tips on how to study for it? Thank you so much

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this). Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

I haven't taken this CLEP so cannot comment on how difficult it might be. However, you might want to check out Take Free Online Courses. Earn College Credit. Research Schools, Degrees & Careers for studying. They have quizzes to go with each video on the subjects there, including Biology. Also, check out your local library to see if they have free practice tests for the CLEP on their website. Good luck!

Check the specific exam feedback section. I found the biology CLEP very difficult...that was my lowest score ever (56). I had just taken high school biology at that time, and there were a lot of laboratory scenarios that I wasn't prepared for.

I used the Instantcert flashcards and scored a 68. For colleges that give grades for CLEPs, that's the equivalent of getting an A. I wish there were flashcards for CLEP Chemistry. I read a whole book and watched some Khan Academy videos and failed that one.

Not an exam to take lightly for sure. I would suggest watching the CRASH COURSE! on Youtube. These videos are very fun and make the understanding of how things work easy. My main study tools during this exam was these videos, and the link that clep3705 left. I was able to pass the course with about 4 days of solid studying, but really it was only because I knew the terms. Most of the questions that were asked I had no idea to the answer, but I recognized different terms in the answer which made me select it.
Good luck!

Hello Sanantone.
Was this Chemistry CLEP attempt the recent one you alluded to in a recent thread? Did you try out any of the ALEKS chemistry beforehand? Any suggestions for those who come after you?
As always, thanks!

Yes, I finally took it a couple of days ago. First, the Khan Academy videos were much better at explaining chemistry concepts than the book I had which advertises itself as being easy to understand. However, I'm not sure if the Khan Academy videos cover most of what's needed to pass the CLEP. If I were to do it all over, I would have watched all of the Khan Academy videos and read an SAT II or AP Chemistry book. There really isn't that much information on the test in the Specific Feedback Forum. Still, I think flashcards would have been better for me because they would have concentrated my studies on the things I absolutely needed to know. The book I read covered a bunch of things I didn't need to know and there was too much to absorb. I also read this book over two months, so it's not like I crammed for this test. No, I didn't use ALEKS even though I do have an open account. I forgot about it.

As always thanks Sanantone. These detailed insights is what makes our interchanges so useful. I wish there were flashcards for this subject too! My gut tells me that if your algebra is strong and you had the flashcards you could make it. By all accounts that I have run across the CHEM CLEP is the hardest. I'm going to try the ALEKS Chem module as my approach to the CLEP. The "problem" with ALEKS is that it really teaches you the material and not the test. I don't think I'm just "ticket punching" here since I will need to repeat the course with labs some time in the future for PA grad school. But I do need to get that BSAST first.
