Anyone pass Excelsior's Research Methods?

Looking for feedback and tips on Excelsior's Research Methods in Psychology test. Anyone?

I took this about four months ago and got an A. I bought an older, used version of one of the recommended books "Experimental Psychology" by Myers & Hansen on Amazon.com. I used the Content Outline to guide my study, then did the reading. I had a copy of Kaplan's study guide on the GRE psychology test, so also re-read the chapter on research design. A lot of the questions were scenario-based, so you should be sure you understand how experiments work in terms of the Independent Variable, Dependent Variable, subject designs, and so on. In other words, the test is about comprehending the concepts, as opposed to memorizing terms, names, etc. If you know the concepts, it's not a difficult test - or at least the version I took wasn't.

Thanx so much for the tips. I found them helpful and enlightening. Any recommendations on how long to study for? (& how to study?)

Always a good question and usually a little different for everyone.

In general, when I was able to pass sample/practice/mock exams plus nearly all of the IC flashcards I was ready. Everyone has a different formula, method, and length of study time; for CLEP/DANTES exams I studied for 3-weeks.

In any case NEVER sit the "real" exam until YOU are READY regardless of what others tell you; it's YOUR degree and there's no need to rush and face failure but rather take it easy and embrace a passing grade with VICTORY!!

Good Luck!!

I can't remember exactly how long I studied for this test, but it was probably about 25 or 30 hours. There's a study guide that can be purchased as an accompaniment to the Experimental Psychology book, and I bought that specifically for the practice tests that it includes. I have found that the practice tests that come with Excelsior's Content Outlines are useful, but should not be considered indicators of when one is ready to take the exam, and I wanted an additional resource to help me gauge my knowledge of the material. I always dislike when I have to study for a subject that I can't use InstantCert for, because the big challenge is to find a way to identify the information that will be covered on the test. The best combination is to be able to use InstantCert and practice tests that are geared toward the exam, but with Research Methods, neither of these is available.

Wow, thanx everyone for all your helpful info and tip-offs! I think I'll push off my test untill the ic comes out with it. Hope it's soon and it's good! For now, I'll try scheduling an Excelsio test that comes along with ic already.
