I completed a class at Heriot-Watt University in the UK. It was Quantitate Methods. I've been talking with DCAN on this one to try and figure out if I can get credit for it. The answer we have so far is maybe. You have to go through some foreign university credit evaluation organization but TESC says that they might award only partial credit for it (their choice).
I want to know if anyone has had any experience doing this. Specifically what I'm wondering is if TESC is in the habit of awarding the full three semester hours of credit for a class completed at a foreign university. The other thing you should know is the class was completed in 1995. Thanks everyone

Hey walternc3, my wife was able to transfer credits from her university in Turkey, I believe TESC accepted about 78 of them (the max transfer they allow from foreign institutions is 90). We used WES for evaluation.

Of the classes they gave her credit for did she get full credit for each individual class? My worry is that I'll pay money, jump through hoops and then TESC might only give me 1 or 2 semester hours (out of 3) for this course.

How expensive are these evaluations? You can use precalculus to fulfill the requirement. ALEKS is only $20 a month. TESC will even accept ALEKS trigonometry to fulfill the quantitative/precalculus requirement. All you need to do is score at least a 70% on an assessment and ACE will transcribe the credits.

He's already done ALEKS trig so that block is filled. My understanding is it was more of a statistics class? At TESC quantitative methods fills the same square as precalculus, which is also filled by ALEKS trig -- meaning you already filled that square with ALEKS.
I sent you another message a little while ago. I sent another e-mail up to TESC asking them how they accept the courses from a NACES evaluator, i.e. do they accept it like ACE and grant whatever the evaluator's recommendation is? Or do they do more internal investigation before making a decision? Basically the same question you are asking. I think it's a great question and we should get clarification on it before you move forward. We'll see what they say.
@beargins,
How much were the evaluations, and do you have any insight into the above questions? I think this would be something good to put up on the wiki once we have it clarified.
Thanks!

I have sent my Scottish transcripts to WES and I am awaiting the info getting to TESC and Excelsior before I decide which school to enroll with. The course by course evaluation by WES is $160 so for the amount of classes I have taken it is worth it, but for one class you may be better with an alternative?
I attended Franklin University for 2 semesters in 2005-06 and they took my transcripts directly and credited me with the full amount of hours shown on them, albeit adjusting for quarters v semesters as has to be done for some schools in the US too.

Response from TESC:
Quote:We work off the credit recommendations of those credit reviewing organizations that were listed, much in the way ACE recommendations are viewed.
So it sounds like they take whatever WES determines. Now the only question is, is it stats or quantitative analysis? A TESC BSBA requires "Precalculus Mathematics or Quantitative Business Analysis." With ALEKS trig you have filled this block. If its stats though it may be worth looking into. I'm not sure on the pros/cons of stressing that its a graduate level class, but lacking any reason not to do it I would make that point as clearly as possible.

Would you report back here with a status on (a) how your courses were evaluated by WES and (b) how they were accepted at TESC? I'd really appreciate it, thanks.

It was a Statistics class but like Dcan said who knows what TESC will call it. I think what I'm going to do is just wait till July and then pay the $160 to WES to get the course evaluated. Then I'll see what TESC has to say about it after I pay my TESC tuition late August. If they don't accept it then I'll just go back and do Stats through ALEKS. I'm just going to call the 160 bucks the cost of sitting at the roulette table and hope for the best. This forum has been extremely helpful to my pursuits. I appreciate everyone's imput on this one.

The $160 fee won't just allow you to transfer it to TESC but also hold it for other credit institutions in the United States if you go on further to do an MBA it may be transferable. I'm working on an Advanced Administration Cert in Ireland and I'll be trying my hand to see what happens in November. The good thing about evaluation is that they store that data for you to use many years later and also provide employers with a breakdown of your qualification.
