I think you can e-mail the help desk privately from your own website, and see if they can help you. At work, I usually trust one or 2 of the techs I know remotely log into my machine. I am not sure if TESC Techs do this or are allowed to do it, but I can see you've been struggling with getting on quite a long time now, so if I was the mentor, I would think you were appropriate and wise to put a ticket in with IT using your private e-mail. At least they will have a log showing how much trouble you've been having and what the issues were.
It COULD be that the screen is open, but hiding. If you have a new computer it will hide in the top of the Google Chrome computer as a grey tab. If you have too many tabs open it might be behind them. Keep closing out the little x's on each tab and see if the main logon page is hiding.
