Procrastination is something I have been battling my whole life.
Does anyone else have this problem and how do you deal with it?

Constant struggle. This might be why competency based might not work for me.

It's a constant battle. Having memory issues from a lack of oxygen to my brain for months and ADHD really doesn't help.

I read a good article today about this. It had a couple book recommendations.

Procrastination is typically caused by having goals that are excessively abstract, with rewards far in the future. Added factors are anxiety, perfectionism and having a fear of negative assessment. Lack of energy, lack of motivation and feeling generally overwhelmed can contribute. People with ADHD are prone to procrastination and they sometimes use this to create a sense of urgency so as to overpower their difficulties with focus and concentration.

It depends on each persons situation, if you have too many things to all do at once because of other commitments, yes - I agree. However, if I was X years younger, not married, no kids, no other commitments, procrastination wouldn't be too much of an issue as long as you're progressing further. Having said that, yes... Competency based education may/may not work.

Procrastination is why I need regular deadlines. If something isn't keeping me on track, I'll lose focus. Most of my weeks proceed something like this: I start with a few days picking at the course content but not making much progress. Then I have a few days making moderate headway. Finally, as the deadlines approach, panic sets in and I focus on getting everything done. This is a stressful way to go about life, but I haven't found any other method that works.

For me competency is awesome because I'm not stuck with someone else's arbitrary scheduling. I can set a schedule that I know I can work with. I don't overload myself. Baby steps is how I plan out my competency courses.

I have found that usually if I have a productive day, I need to get something done within the first 4 hours of the day.
When I did 2 separate TESU terms, I had mixed results with getting things done on time.
Sometimes I would do good and work ahead, and sometimes I would be sitting there writing a paper Sunday night and either barely make the deadline literally by minutes or be late by 1-2hrs. (Panic monster kicks in, lol)
