#1
I need to fill 6 general electives for my TESC degree. Are there any low cost or free courses I can take online besides Aleks, Straighterline, or CLEP.

Saylor NCCRS and ACE-approved courses. The courses are free; you just have to pay $25 for ProctorU.

Will the TEEX courses can satisfy the requirements for General Electives? Or do they fit under Free Electives only?

They can only be counted as CIS, business electives, and free electives.

I think the Kaplan PLA course counts in GenEd. https://opencollege.kaplan.com/opencollege/LRC100/

General Education Courses - it's in the A section.

Of course, some of us have taken the course, and have it on our ACE Transcript - but I haven't heard anyone say that they've transferred it over yet, and where TESC put it. But it doesn't take long to get through the course, so I figured it was worth a shot.

Good luck!

TESC has in house exams? I believe so. Our colleges here call it "AP" testing but you only get one try at each subject. Can you test out one a class or two at your local community college and then transfer those credits in? Something like "History of the Theater" or "Culture Antropology" where you can just read/study the book and then attempt the test. Take a Kinesiology or Health Class and see if that can transfer in?

AP tests are made for high school students and are offered by the College Board. Adults can take them if they can find a school that will let them sit for the exam. I think these exams are only offered once a year and cost $91 each. One might as well take CLEP or DSST at that price. TESC's in-house exams are called TECEPs; they are $111 each for non-residents. A local community college might have challenge exams, but those are probably reserved for enrolled students and may or may not cost as much as CLEP/DSST. Kinesiology will transfer over as gen ed if TESC deems it to be a biology course. A health class may or may not be counted as gen ed.

The Kaplan PLA course can be used in the Intellectual and Practical Skills portion of the gen ed requirements. I am not sure if it can be counted as a gen ed elective.

Yeah, see our CC offers the AP test at the actual college site. You only get one chance to test for it, but if you pass the test, you don't have to take the class and it goes as a non-gpa "P" class. If you fail nothing shows up as if you never took the test, but you can't take the test again. They have test dates that you have to sign up for some weeks in advance.

Right. Some of the Kinesiology classes our CC offers are physical activities like "Jogging" where you just jog all class. I took a weight lifting class and all I did was weight lift for an hour, two times a week. It was required to graduate. However other classes are biology based as Kinesiology is also a major. I think 50 percent of our substitute teachers were Kinesiology majors lol.

According to the College Board website, the AP exams are only offered in May.

I'm waiting on my AP History and AP Gov scores to be evaluated by TESC (exams are over 5 years old so it's a bit of a longer process to get AP to send scores). From what I remember, the AP U.S. History exam covered both HIS 1 & 2. I wonder if TESC will give me 6 credits for it. I'm also curious to see how the Kaplan PLA works out, I should be sending my ACE transcript in sometime soon; just need to crack .70 on Aleks Stats first and also there seems to be quite a wait with approval on my TEEX and NFA course as they still appear as pending (been over a week).

SL would probably be an effective and the least time consuming way to knock out 2 general ed courses. The key is picking classes that will allow you to reasonably enter the Final by being within the 55-70% range. That way you just aim for the bare minimum at the end and don't have to stress too much over the proctored exam. With no letter grade transcribed at TESC for SL, it's optimum.
