Okay - I have looked and searched the site but I am not really finding what I am looking for.
I am just wondering if anyone has any feedback on how their job search went after they got their degree through Excelsior or even one of the other online schools. I am venturing forward to get my degree in business/accounting. I am just wondering if there is any feedback on Excelsior versus a traditional college degree.
I have used CLEP tests for several credits....It has saved me alot of money. The college I am currently taking classes through does not accept ECE test and I cannot take DSST because I am not military(hmmmm should I enlist LOL). The tuition and class restrictions are killing me....at this rate I will get my degree in 2009..I don't want to wait that long, it seems like such a snails pace compared to others who have gotten their degrees on here.
Any input would be appreciated since I am trying to decide if I can afford the enrollment fee for Excelsior or should I just save my money and use for classes.

I don't know if it matters where you obtain your degree (other than making sure the school you attend is accredited as being recognized by US Dept of Ed and CHEA) as much as it does what your degree (major) is as well as your career goals.
Excelsior is an excellent RA school that can assist you in obtaining a job, however it's your drives, goals and other tools that will actually help you land the job itself.
As for DSST (DANTES) exams - anyone can take them, it is no longer a military only exam. Also the Excelsior enrollment isn't that bad; remember you're saving thousands of $$ by testing out on many, if not all, of your degree requirements.
Good Luck!

Thanks. I have just visited with so many recruiters that discourage online schools. They say that it is not any different than a diploma mill except that it costs more.
NOW - I do disagree with this, but I was just wondering if anyone has input on their job search.
I have been in the Accounting field for over 20 years. I currently hold a position as Director of Finance, and I have been working for this organization for over 4 years. They knew that I did not have a degree when I was put in this position. Now, because of policy and board decisions, they are requiring a degree for all upper management positions. I have two other peirs who are affected by this decision. The time limit is impossible if I go the traditional route. They have given 1 year. They also will not accept an online degree for this position.
I am just trying to decide if I do get a degree through Excelsior, if I decided to find another job if I would run into the same situation. Was just looking for feedback.
Thanks for your response.

And just in case you missed him say it, yes, you can take DSST exams--they're not limited to military.
Head over to
The DSST Program for testing centers.

The school I am currently enrolled in does not accept DSST exams unless you are in the military - school policy. Wish they would..that would save me quite a bit of time.
Thanks.

They also require at least half the credits earned to be in traditional class...not tests.
Thanks.

Screw them, I am in University of Marlyand University College
UMUC which if I am not mistaken has the largest online program in the world. It is an official branch of University of Maryland which I know others on here have attended. You only need to do 30 credits with them to get a degree from them and can test out of 60 credits but only 24 being CLEP.
I would transfer as soon as I could if I couldn't test out of anything. Tell them to take a hike, as for the job thing I like you have been in my profession for several years and I am playing catch up for not getting a degree when I finished school. I project to be completed by next summer and I just started two years ago and took it easy the first year. I take two online classes a semester then test out of as many as I can (last semester fall 2006 I tested out of 8 making it 30 credits with classes). Now I can kick back and do two classes each semester with one summer school and two test outs per semester minus one for summer and be done on time.
Its simple math and economics, test out = less $$$ for the university and quicker graduation. Not much to think about really if you ask me, but hey I am not you so if you want to waste your time or more importantly your money then stay with them.
