I have recently successfully pounded out respectable passing scores for both the US History II CLEP and the Civil War & Reconstruction DSST, and now itâs on to tackling my Natural Sciences requirement. I can't decide whether I want to go for the Astronomy DSST or, alternatively, the Environment & Humanity: The Race to Save the Planet DSST. Both subjects are relatively interesting to me, so it's kind of a toss up. Any sage words of advice on which one may be easier to tackle with a week or two of prep would be greatly appreciated. The exam-specific feedback seems to be pretty balanced in this regard. Thanks in advance...

You could take them both.
Well, since I just passed Astronomy, I thought I would through in a good word for it. A bit less global warming nonsense than in "The Race to Save the Planet." But really, Astronomy is definitely an exam you could cream in two weeks time. IC, IC feedback, Wikipedia, and one other source would be plenty to earn a respectable score.
Are you using TESC or EC? (I forget, though I'm thinking TESC for some reason.) EC offers a grade of 'A' for any score above 58, which is certainly nice for the GPA.

Hi Ruddigore!
Has this policy changed recently? I hope not because I got a 57. I thought it required a 55 or higher for an A.
Thanks.

Thanks. The chart that my mom had printed off a year or so ago listed Astronomy as needing a 58 for an A, but I just checked EC's latest Student Guide to Credit by Examination, and they show 55 as the minimum.
Sorry for the scare.

Oh, good. Thanks for checking! I find it difficult at times to keep up on the latest policies.
Professor, I agree with Ruddigore. Why not both? I chose Astronomy because it was a subject that I had always wanted to learn about. It was a good opportunity for me to learn and earn college credit for it.

Not a bad idea, indeed... I only need three Natural Science credits at this time, but may also pursue whichever exam I do not tackle for my requirements for the sake of elective credit as well. Just wanted to try to ascertain from those in the know which would be the most efficient (read: easier) to get under my belt first...

I really enjoyed Astronomy. I think I posted some feedback on the exam, but I took it just as an "extra" one night when I finished the others up before expected. I'd always been interested in the subject, and casual reading while growing up was enough to pull out a pass (56).
Race to save the planet would be my second choice, but a lot of the research I've done on the exam seems to tie in well with Astronomy. Most of the terrestrial subjects are the same anyway (Atmosphere, Weather, etc).
I'm with Ruddigore on this one, take them both!

Since I just passed Environment and Humanity, I'll play Ruddigore's opposite and advocate for it instead!
I read through the IC cards once and looked up everything I didn't know that was mentioned in the exam feedback forums and made an A with very little time invested. I found it pretty enjoyable too.
I haven't looked through the Astrology feedback yet (although now I'm thinking I should take that next!), but the feedback in the Environment and Humanity thread is long, detailed, and spot on.
Good luck either way!

My best friend would explode at his beloved Astronomy being called Astrology, though I understand why you'd get them mixed up! (I've done it myself.) I should do it just to bother him. milelol:
