Hi - I'm wondering if any one might have pointers for taking and passing the CLEP for Anal & Interpreting Literature? Michelle

Try doing a search on this forum for this test. Be sure to also check out the Specific Exam Feedback section.

This test is really just Reading Comprehension with some literary terms thrown in. Buff up on some of those terms, and take a PT or two to gauge how you're fairing before attempting the CLEP (If you're hitting 60% or higher on your Practice Tests you should be good to go). Watch the clock on this test. Focus on the questions instead of reading the whole text unless you are a very fast reader. This test is all about comprehension and understanding. Know literary terms and you'll be good to go!

Yes, the clock is it! I took it back in November and didn't pass by one point (that was hard to accept!)...I got stuck on a Greek tragedy and thats when I lost time. Did you take it? I'm retaking it since it's 6 units. One thing is I studies terms and no much of my studying, I used Speedyprep prepared me. I know there are different versions of the test too.

Yes, I recently took and passed this one. I got the REA book, which was quite helpful with brushing up on reading comprehension skills. The more literary devices you know, the better. My test had about half old English passages and half modern. Of course, the old English ones were much harder to decipher. And yes, the clock is intense on this one so don't waste time on any one question for too long. I know I had no time to spare at the end of the test!

Sorry about your experience. I didn't think A&I was as easy as some people make it out to be and they definitely don't give you enough time to analyze the pieces.

In the REA book look at the answers - it helps to know how to narrow down the answers and the book explains it.

i took this test and its not easy at all. I needed to study more and yes, you need to remember the time. I lost time concentrating on some questions and ended up failing with a 36. I will be trying again in a couple of months but i need more reading material than the instacert, it does help but i need more help than that. My tip is to study hard and when you take the test be aware of your time. Good luck!!

I think I studied for about 2 days for this clep and scored a 65. It mostly involves reading comprehension and answering 4 or 5 questions about a specific poem or piece of literature. I read all the literature and took my time and had plenty of time left over. There were a lot of questions dealing with stuff like "In line 7, the author said XXXXX, this most closely relates to ...." and stuff like that. Check out the Petersons tests online and take on or two to get the idea of how the test is set up. There was a good website that had a lot of terms and stuff that I looked at a bit, and they asked a few questions about them. I'll see if I can find that site. Not a hard test at all though, especially if you do a lot of reading anyway.

This is a really good site to use for a lot of CLEPs. I just cut and pasted the information from the different links into a word document and studied the terms for one or two days, then took the test. There are duplicates between the Glossary of Poetic Terms and both Literary Devises links, but they have good definitions. A couple questions they might ask would be like "in lines 5 - 8, is this an example of a -- Dialect, an Aside, a Flashback, etc... stuff like that. A very easy 6 credits!
