American Literature

Hello everyone:

I'm preparing to sit the American Literature CLEP and to be honest, I'm not too confident that I'll pass this one. Form what I've been reading on this and other forums, I get the impression that this CLEP is the one of hardest ( if not the hardest exam) with a very low pass rate. I will greatly appreciate any guidance from the forum members that already took this CLEP on how to go about studing for this exam. Thank you.:confused:

The AmLit exam is no more difficult that most of the others that require you to have recall and links between the various writers, their works, characters and such. I took and passed this one with the Idiots guide; I studied for three weeks and took whatever practice exams I could.

As for high or low pass rates - ignore them as it's up to you to pass and it doesn't matter what others have or have not done.

Congratulations on passing Micro and Intro to Psych. Do you have any advice or feedback to share on those two exams?

Somebody will be right along to answer your AmLit questions. I haven't taken that exam, so I will defer to those who have.

i didnt think IC had American Lit study guides...am I wrong...i will be taking this test in two weeks.....i am reading the idiots guide to lit...its actually pretty entertaining...

i'm also interested in feedback with micro...will be tackling that in a month.....

I took this test and passed with an "A". I used the Idiot's Guide, Wikipedia, and I checked out an anthology from my local library (which I pretty much just perused). Before I made the decision to take this test, I looked for feedback from people who had taken it, much like you're doing now. What I found is that most people thought it wasn't that hard, which was what made me decide to go for it. So don't worry, just do the studying, and you'll be fine. The six credits make the time worth it!

My 1st clep was Microeconomics. I scored a 61 even though I generally considered myself knowledgeable in this field. The tough questions on this exam surprised me.
Do each university(CLEP centers) set a pre-determined certain level of difficulty, i.e do they program the software from least difficult to very difficult so that only certain questions would be spooled on the test? I might be wrong but who knows.

My other clep - Psychology, i also scored a 61 but it was relatively easy.

Now I am attempting American Literature on the last week of August. Can anyone who has already passed this CLEP tell me if all the questions are "history" related? i.e. who or what did this or that. I was under the impression that I have to be knowledgeable of the works of the authors and not the history surrounding the authors themselves. Please help.

As for "history" in the AmLit exam, I do not recall any specific "history" related questions whatsoever. That being said - get the "idiots guide" on AmLit and YOU WILL PASS the exam. Good Luck!![/COLOR][/SIZE]

That makes TWO of us! So don't feel bad - that was a tough test in my opinion. But congratulations on passing the two tests, and welcome to the board!
