Which one should I take given that I only have a moderate and roughly equal level of exposure to the content of either exam?
American Lit or English Lit CLEP?

American Lit is easier if you have recently studied US History. English Lit (which is 1/2 A&I Lit) is easier if you've taken and done well on the Analyzing & Interpreting Lit Clep.

I'd go with English Literature. I love reading it so I had some experience with it but not too much. I got a 61 on the American Lit after taking the high school course and got a 72 on the English Lit after no high school course, using Barron's EZ guide, Peterson's practice tests, and IC.
Hope this helps!

Yeah, I would also say English Lit. However, it's quite likely you've already read a lot of the American Lit books in highschool or though leisure, in which case go for that. However, in terms of starting from zero, I'd say English Lit is easier. In any case, barron's book for English, idiot's guide for American.

Based on the responses I think I'm going to take the English Lit exam. Thank you all for you input.
