Am I Doing This Right??
#1
Hey all,

So about a year ago I applied to COSC for the BSBA degree. The degree audit showed that I was able to transfer all of my CC credits (34) and what classes I need in order to fulfill the degree requirements. I ended up not enrolling and pretty much didn't do anything until just recently when I began to take some cleps and dsst's. My biggest question is can I continue taking the cleps and dsst's etc. that fulfill the degree before I actually enroll to take the capstone and cornerstone? I am trying to save money and those are the only two classes that I plan on taking there, everything else I plan to test out of. Has anyone else done this before?? Below is what I have tested out of so far. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Completed:
Aleks: College Algebra - 70
DSST Substance Abuse - 429
CLEP Principles of Mang - 56
CLEP Principles of Mark - 55

The only reason to actually enroll is to secure the regulations in the catalogue. When You do this you lock yourself into a specific plan. I don't find this a big deal, but simply following a plan approved a year or so ago is niot guaranteed to be correct....things can and do change from yerar to year, usually these are relatively small, but they can make all the difference.

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

If you are on your way to the BSBA degree, get yourself the Associates of Science first as you're almost there.
You can continue taking CLEP/DSST before you even enroll, just continue fulfilling the requirements for that BSBA.
The Associates of Science is just an addition, it's not really required but a nice to have freebie by using FEMA.

The short answer is: yes. Go ahead and take the courses that you need for the BSBA and apply again when you are ready to take the last two courses. As rebel said above, by not applying now, there is some risk that something could change, but at COSC, generally that risk has been small. If you delay, this will save you the semester fees until you actually enroll.

If you have any specific questions concerning the BSBA at COSC, feel free to send me a private message.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the advice. Attached is my degree audit that I am going off of. Before I choose to take an exam I double check with COSC's exam/credit equivalent chart. I'm really hoping that I can complete this within a year but we will see. I'm just not going to stop until I finish.

You have a great start on your General Education. I would suggest Straighterline's Intro to Communication for your Oral Communication requirement. The Business Ethics and Society DSST is a great option for ethics because it is upper level and it will also count as a business elective. You can take a Technical Writing option such as the DSST for the rest of your Written Communication requirement.

Some more thoughts since my post above:

Be sure that you are using the most current master exam list. They have updated it and added some additional DSST upper level options since you started this a year ago: https://www.charteroak.edu/catalog/curre...amlist.pdf

Study.com is now a good option for Financial, Managerial Accounting, and Business Law. There are also CLEPs for Financial Accounting and Business Law.

The Information Systems CLEP is a good option for the Management Information Systems requirement.

For Finance you can take Financial Management through Penn Foster, or Principles of Finance through Study.com or DSST.

Organizational Behavior is probably best taken through DSST since it is now upper level.

For Upper Level Business Electives (9 credits):Business Ethics and Society DSST, Human Resource Management DSST, Advanced Operations Management Study.com are all good options to fulfill this requirement.

Business Statistics: Straighterline is a good option. ALEKS is also very good, but I did notice that the ACE recommendation currently expires on 11/30/2016. I don't know the status of its renewal, so if it were me, I'd get this done quickly just in case.

CLEP is good for Macro- and Microeconomics. There are some other options here from Straighterline and Study.com, etc.

As you probably know, you will need 30 total upper level credits, 60 total liberal arts credits, and 120 total credits. If you have all the requirements complete and are not at 120, FEMA credits are a great option for free electives.

Use this list to pick your FEMA courses: https://em-study.com/emsfema/article.php...icle_id=62
Take the courses here: https://training.fema.gov/is/crslist.aspx?all=true
Have these credits sent directly from FEMA to COSC at no cost.

These are just some of my quick thoughts and recommendations. Other options that you may choose will probably work fine.

Just keep working as you have been, and you will probably be finished sooner than you think.

If any questions come up, feel free to ask.

I understand some of the DSST including Business Ethics may be pulled and re-worked at the end of this year....you might go ahead and tackle that one now.

I am enrolled in my first semester at COSC, not sure if this will help but,

You might be able to get a waiver for the oral communication requirement if you have any speaking experience.

I am waiting to hear back from COSC to see if English 305: Advanced Technical Writing, from Study.com, will fill the English Composition 2 requirement. If it does I will take it, as it comes in as upper level.

This doesn't necessarily pertain to you but COSC requires English Composition 2 requirement be filled before taking any upper level credit with them.

As someone else mentioned you avoid the semester fee by waiting to enroll.

One issue I had with waiting to enroll is I had half a dozen questions about my preliminary evaluation and they told me I had to wait to enroll to get a final answer. Your evaluation doesn't look it has issues, but for me not knowing if I needed to take 6 classes or not was a bit frustrating.

the DSST Technical Writing satisfies Comp 2 as well (not UL though).
