What a ride!!! If you have the patience and can take this course in a brick and mortar you may want to consider it especially if feedback is important to you. I've never felt so alone in a course. Lol... Even the feedback in this forum was very slim in regards to this course but I'm thinking that is because not too many people have taken this class or perhaps not recently anyway. That said, the course can be done super quickly and although pricey it's somewhat doable in exchange for the speed I guess. Here are a few pointers for those brave enough to roam into the dark and lonely waters of this course...
1. Read every single course Introduction for the chapters in this course. This course is not like the others where you can just skip over the course intro material...
2. Do most of your labs before you take any quizzes and don't forget to take your pictures and make sure you upload them in the right chapter area!
3. Work closely with the lab kit creators who sold you the kit in the first place. They are far more knowledgeable about the "science" behind their kits than the SL phone representatives although the representatives are kind but this can't really help to answer lab questions as anyone who's ever taken a serious lab would know...
4. Read every word of the lab instructions carefully BEFORE you start the lab or you WILL run out of supplies and end up in pickle. Don't let anyone or anything within 2 feet of your lab supplies. Avoid all contamination risk!
5. Don't let the course intimidate you it's very doable and there aren't any deadly chemicals that will wipe out your neighborhood (unfortunately? Lol! jk) but it will require your full attention so clear out at least 2 weeks for the heavy hitting with the labs and quizzes and then up to 3 more weeks for all of the incubating.
6. The forums have a few good questions and answers that will steer you in the right direction for how to do SOME things just don't expect to find everthing in there and definitely don't expect a reply right away. 3-5 days is more realistic in there.
7. All of the quizzes are open book and open note and they drop the lowest one so no need to stress at all.
8. This class was confirmed as Upper Level Credit for my Natural Sciences and Math degree at TESC before I paid for it. You should also ensure that it will be accepted for your program before starting.
9. Be careful with your materials. I accidentally did not read the label on a jar carefully enough and ended up using an ingredient that was called for specifically in a later lab. Luckily it worked but had I not caught my mistake in time I would have ended up in trouble on a later lab.
10. Avoid having to re-glove too many times by planning out your procedures carefull or you'll have to buy more because this lab uses a lot of gloves!!
K that's all. Now run out there and get those UL Credits if you dare!
The great news is that this puts me 1 class away from my degree now! I am so very thankful for this forum!!
