The person that I am thinking of that got it rejected was Zsa Zsa. She had a thread about this in October. So you are right Jennifer, some people are getting it rejected in the last few months

So I've been taking ALEKS all night (since I last posted). I'll tell you what, I HATE THIS!! Much better option than taking a course or the CLEP (for me, anyway), but I want reimbursed for the keyboard I smashed against my wall!!! xD I passed beg. algebra on the first try with a 78 and went on to int. algebra. 62, 65, 67,68!!! GAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
But I finally got it; a 71!!! To ACE!!

GAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Whoo hooo! That's great! I'm doing the ALEKS Math prep for physics. It isn't for college credit, it's just prepping me for a physics class this spring, but it's much slower going for me. I'm about 50% of my pie right now, but I'm making myself do 9 topics per day....banghead Well, you'll have intermediate done in no time. I'll be curious to see how TESC lists both your maths. Please remember to post that info when you find out. (and your major- since it matters)

Can you bare with another new guy question?
What is the ALEKS? I went to their site and it looks like an educational resource, a means to study and get fully acquainted with a subject. You can somehow get credits for some of these lessons at TESC??? Or am I mistaken and these are actual exams that you pay for like CLEP?

I have yet to take an ALEKS course-- but from my understanding it is a way to learn math online and you are assessed during the course to see if you are comprehending the information. It is like an open book style learning. You do it completely at home at your pace. The goal is to reach 70% assessment of the material. Once you reach 70%-- TESC will take the credits through ACE. You set up a monthly account with Aleks for $20/mo. It is a great bargain because some people on here complete 2 or 3 math courses in one month. This is a lot cheaper than Clep or Dsst. Do a search on here because there is a huge thread that explains it better than me--lots of great info from people that have gone through Aleks.

dblhelx Wrote:Can you bare with another new guy question? Think of it as a guided-study course. Totally self-paced. Basically you choose a subject, take an initial assessment (which is used to see what information you already know) and then choose areas to study. You can request a new assessment at any time through the master account. Score at least a 70% on an assessment and you have ACE assess your credits. There's a link in the master account that takes you to the ACE site. From my experience (8 straight hours yesterday), whatever you get wrong on the initial assessment is the bulk of the material on any other assessments (or at least it seemed that way). What I would do is switch courses to another one and then come back to the course and do the initial assessment again. I finished beg. algebra and int. algebra yesterday (6 potential credits) and scored 64% on college algebra, which I'm hoping to have done before 2011 ![]() Good luck!

Scroll back earlier in the thread and Jennifer states >>>
Quote-This needs to be checked and double checked- hell, then check again. TESC has routinely flip-flopped on this specific class. When ALEKS first started, all of us used this class as a 100 level gen ed math. It was accepted and many people here have it on their transcript. Within the past 4-6 months, however, it is getting rejected. You'll have to do a forum search, my apologies for not remember which members specifically have had this dropped down into remedial. So, I'm standing by remedial until it starts to get accepted again. I do know SEVERAL people fought this with Dr Keel (TESC head of advising), however, I think those students were challenging an earlier evaluation where they were given credit then had it removed/denied on a re-evaluation. Proceed with caution, but it's certainly worth a try. (I didn't make up 089, someone here has that on their transcript- lets hope they chime in)- Quote Thanks for the update on what you received on your transcript!!
