AS to BSN help pick a school
#11
Cookderosa I was hoping for your wise words of wisdom! I don't think #1 can be done for less than 1 year salary. We are really adverse to student loan debt. I understand the "good debt" debate, but she's got scholarships at 2 other schools for not much out of pocket and both #3and #4 would be a better fit, as the students seem more like her and she could stand out more as a successful student. Both have 3year clinical/hospital experience. #1 is highly competitive and I fear she would get over her head quickly. She would be towards the bottom of the class, as most student come into the program scoring near perfect ACT scores. Although the campus is beautiful, if everyone around you is elite, the 4 years of not finding many like you and competing in an academically challenging program may be a bit overwhelming. Not saying it couldn't be done, but she has two more suitable options in #3 and #4 for a better fit to compete. Thanks again!

rebel100 Wrote:I like three and four. I have an issue with some though not all accelerated programs. Three years starting from virtually zero credits is a rather fast program in and of itself. Quality nursing requires seeing things over and over again in a clinical setting, I would favor a strong clinical program over other deciding factors.

Thanks for the heads up on the accelerated program, as I didn't realize the stats. I was looking at the NCLEX pass rate of those testing, not the success rate of those actually making it through the program to test. Two totally different numbers! The three year programs I listed are because she would be coming in with all nursing prerequisites and gen Ed's complete.
