ALEKS Process question

I'm right in the middle of going through the individual steps of each pie. When I do enough practices, the program says I'm done and it will add it to my pie.

I hold my mouse over the pie piece and click on a new section. Doing this over and over and over so far. (did poorly on initial assessment, obviously)

After I complete ALLLLL the pieces of the pie am I done and then send it to ACE to be put on my transcript and then to TESC? Or after I complete all of the billion pieces of pie do I STILL need to do another official assessment?

I am also going through Aleks right now. However, I get an automatic assessment about every 7% that I move up in the learning mode. I am surprised the program has not given you another assessment already. I get one about every other day it seems. I am almost there-- I am at 69% assessment right now- Yay!! The pie pieces you complete are not what is transferred to ACE from what I understand. It is the assessment percentage that transfers to ACE. Maybe someone else can help explain this as this is my first experience with Aleks.

So as I keep completing little sections, will there be a window that pops up? Or, how do I see or know where I stand in the assessment percentage.

I started off with VERY low assessment so I have to complete all pieces of tghe pie and within each pie piece there are DOZENS of individual sections. It says I've completed 55 of the total 309 sections so far.

At the top of the page above the pie there is a link that says "report". Click on that and it takes you to a page that shows what you have done so far. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page you will see a progress type report that shows the percentage you assessed at initially and how you have progressed each day. There should be like a bar graph that shows the percentage you have gone up each day in the learning mode--also how many topics you learn per hour. Every time I hit about 7% progress in the learning mode the program automatically gives me an assessment test. The assessment test will come right onto the screen without any warning. What math are you taking?

Embarrassingly....intermediate algebra. Next will be precalculus. I excelled in math in highschool...big time...but it's been about 4000 years.

Don't be embarrassed! I am in Beginning Algebra--so you are ahead of me. I have to do Intermediate next. The bummer is that TESC won't take Beginning Algebra for credit so I have to work up to Intermediate which they give credit for. I wish I could have jumped right into Intermediate but I just felt I would have been lost if I didn't take Beginning first.

If that's the case, I don't mind it. I'm enjoying learning the math over again after all these years.....math is an important part of my job and I'm SO TIRED of not knowing it and it being a source of stress. cheersmate

I feel your pain. I've done 3 classes: Math for Dosage, Math Prep for Physics, and Introduction to Stats. My oldest son is on his 5th ALEKS class! My middle two sons are in their first ALEKS math class, and my husband did Beg. Algebra.

Creative gave you all the advice you need Seriously though, the pie is your "homework" of sorts. Topics open up as the computer determines you are ready. When you complete enough they pop up another assessment.

In order to get credit for the course, you must pass an assessment with 70%. The amount completed in your pie isn't relevant. In fact, you could complete 100% of your pie (lol, as if) but until you pass an assessment at 70% you are not done with the class.

Be ready for taking an assessment and having a few topics taken away If you miss questions, they remove those topics. Missing=bad.

Also, PRINT out the things as you learn them. When you go into "explain" that whole page can be printed out and you can start a notebook. That will come in handy during your next assessment.

And, don't be embarrassed. If I started ALEKS, I'd start at Beg Algebra, so you'd be ahead of me too! cheersmate

Jennifer is right- think of completing pieces of the pie as "homework". When you do a certain amount of "homework", the computer determines that you are ready for an "assessment" which is the way it tests you to see what you are learning--kind of like a pop quiz in high school. The assessments are usually about 26 questions and so the key is to get as many questions right as you can so you move up percentage wise--it is THIS percentage that ACE is looking for. For instance, if you got all 26 questions right you would be at 100% assessment!! What I have found that helps is I have a notebook where I work every problem and take notes. So when the assessment pops up I have something to refer to. You have to be very organized with this program IMHO.
