6 Written English credits
#1
Excelsior requires 6 credits written English. All the courses
such a Foster Penn ALEKS etc carry 3 credits and are
very similar. How does a person get these extra 3 credits.
This is a pain in the neck.

You can either take the College Composition CLEP or you can take two Composition classes (like English Composition I and II from Straighterline or Penn Foster.) You may also be able to take a Composition class plus the Technical Writing DSST (you can at COSC anyway, not sure about EC.)

Edit to add: This is an additional 3 credits that will be required for EC students who enroll in a bachelor's degree program after October 1, 2011. The English required for associate degrees will still be 3 credits, not 6.

StraighterLine's English I and II should definitely be one of the available options.

I am looking forward to the new Student Guide to Credit by Exam for more information about this. Previously the only exams that were allowed for the Written English Requirement were AP, ECE (6 credits), UExcel (3 credits), and not CLEP. Since UExcel is only 3 credits, I wonder what other exam options, if any, will be available for the extra 3 credits. Again, we'll have to wait and see.

Oh yeah I forgot that EC doesn't allow the College Composition CLEP to fulfill the writing requirement because they have their own exam. If you want to test out, you should still be able to take the ECE or the UExcel and the Technical Writing DSST I'd think.

(This is for TESC not EC, but it may benefit someone reading this.)

I took College Composition Modular a few months back, and the testing center told me I had to take the two essays as well. I just got confirmation yesterday from TESC that CCM + essay is worth 6 credits and fills both ENC-101 and ENC-102.
