The closest place for me to take CLEPs and DSSTs is Texas State University. They went from charging a $30 testing fee to a $40 one! The next closest place is an Austin Community College campus that charges $35! This is still cheaper than taking a Uexcel (and also much closer), but it makes a lot more sense for me now to take a TECEP if one is available in a subject I need. I miss being able to test at Wayland Baptist University for only $20.

It seems like inflation has hit Texas. Back when I was taking CLEP's in NJ the closest testing CC charged a $40 testing fee (this was back around 2007), when I complained I was told the college was holding down the cost of classes so other things had to cover. There was another CC farther away that cost more time and gas to get to, but I went there because I appreciated their $15 testing fee. I think as more people use exams for credit and others are deciding not to get large student loans colleges are looking for any way to make more money.

I go to Strayer for testing and it'seems only $20 per test. CLEP and DSST. See if you have them near you.

When I was earning my degree a couple years ago, I'm thankful I was able to test for free (no proctor fee) at a nearby DeVry. Now they've stopped offering tests there and my sisters pay $20 every time they test, at a couple different places—American University of Health Sciences, and Webster University, on an Air Force base. But I've heard of places with as high as $50 testing fees :ack:

Thanks, but all of the other testing centers are in Austin. It takes about 30-40 min. to get to somewhere in Austin without traffic depending on where in the city you're going. However, there is always traffic in Austin. A 35 min. drive could easily turn into a one hour drive. It would only be worth the trip if I were taking multiple tests in one sitting.

I had to travel two hours to take my most recent CLEP (Intro Psych) and the Doña Ana Community College charged me $40!! Normally I would have gone to the local University, but they were shut dow. For the summer. Just wait until I have to start taking DSSTs. Then I will be forced to travel at least three hours to take a DSST!!!

ugh! That's awful. There is one place in our area that charges $35, they are a private testing facility and have asked me repeatedly about plugging their site on my page- I can't do it, not for that cost. I still can get $20 fees at several schools here including Strayer of all places.
I wonder if there is an increased demand that is driving up these prices?

That's a lot of money, Sanantone. I found a place in Manhattan (NYC) near my job that charges $20.

Over the course of a couple of years the testing fee went from $15 to $45 and one college wanted $125 (just the testing fee). Then a private proctoring company opened and they only charge $20 - it's a great deal in my area.
