It's a private Christian school.

I didn't realize there was more to the story (I didn't see the button to click to read more).

My guess is, they expelled the child because the parents went to the police. That's as extreme as requiring the assignment in the first place. What on earth are the police going to do? This was not illegal. The whole thing is weird start to finish.

A teacher asking for pictures of children in the bathtub is absolutely something the police should be doing something about.

Yup. Even clothed children are a pedophile thing. Kids in bathtubs? Why else would anyone want those photos aside from family?

It is absolutely not illegal to ask for pics of kids completely clothed in a bathtub.  It may be weird, the teacher may be a pedophile, but it's not illegal, and there's not a thing the police could do about it.

The teacher refused to clarify that the children should be clothed to the larger group of parents when asked to do so. This is gross groomer behavior, and given the track record of religious groups sweeping sexual assault under the rug, it should be taken seriously.

The person could already be on law enforcement's radar for something. One never knows.

If they aren't, then it's yet another example of us failing our children.

I don't want perverts in schools any more than anyone else -- if someone really thinks that's a danger at their child's school - or anywhere else their child might be - they should go after it. Definitely. That's a criminal matter. Talk to the authorities.

This assignment reminds me a LOT of a print ad by a well-known distance U. - forget which one. It was years ago. A nice, wholesome-looking mom-age woman was in her bathtub. Nothing untoward showing. Arms head and a bit of shoulder. She was doing her homework, working to finish her degree by distance. There was a board across the tub, that both preserved her modesty and held her notes, text and oh yes -- a TYPEWRITER - that's how long ago it was. The theme was that you could now finish the degree you'd started, years ago - from anywhere you chose.

It was a great ad -- and nothing objectionable. I bet that teacher has seen it somewhere. But right - it's NOT APPROPRIATE to do this with schoolkids. That lady in the ad was an adult, a professional model, who knew the territory and made her own decision to do that work, for suitable pay.  There - one sentence, 5 reasons why the kids should not have had this assignment.

I don';t like the school board spokesperson's reaction, either. It seems the young girl's mother only got the detailed instructions when she e-mailed the teacher. The spokesperson said everyone got those instructions with the assignment. Somehow, I don't think so. If all parents got something, it was probably a panic reaction to initial complaints.

ANYWAY - at very least, DUMB for the teacher to do, DUMB for the school board to allow. I HOPE there's nothing beyond that, involved. If there is - that's a criminal matter to be pursued accordingly. And I think that the advice to vote in School Board elections is good. Find the sources of dumbness - and don't vote for them .

There is nothing that says this private religious school has a school board, so there may be nothing the parents can do on that end.

The best thing to do is pull your kids out of that school.  Find one that doesn't give questionable assignments, or make you question a teacher's motives.  If enough parents do this, then the teacher gets fired, or the school goes out of business.  The fact that more parents didn't question the assignment...again, not sure if anyone did or not, and it was still unclear why the kid was expelled.  The reporting here was not good (not unusual these days).
