DSST- Vietnam War OR Soviet Union?

Hello All,

I have to take a history related DSST soon. Civil War is already out of the equation . Which one do you think is easier between Vietnam War and Soviet Union? Also would IC be enough as a study resource since these are history stuff with great detail?

I thought the Vietnam War test was pretty easy. Just follow the study guides and flash cards as mentioned in its specific thread.

For Soviet History I just listened to Gary Hamburg's Rise and Fall of Soviet Communism from the Teaching Company a couple of times and did a few flashcards here. Wasn't bad but I found it pretty interesting. Haven't done Vietnam though.

I spent about a week of study for each of them and thought they were pretty similar in difficulty. They both have hard names to remember. One important factor is the Vietnam test has a lot more feedback since its refresh to the 400 scoring system than the Soviet Union one. Take a look through each of the Specific Exam Feedback sections to get a feel for each of them

Note: I took the refreshed Vietnam DSST and the old Soviet Union DSST.

I took both of them this year. I found the Vietnam War DSST to be a little bit easier, but that was because I watched the 12 hour Battlefield Vietnam documentary for my studies. I only went off study guides and the IC flashcards for the Soviet Union exam.

I posted an extensive amount of answers I had on my Soviet Union DSST on the Specific Feedback forum if you decide to take that one.

Additionally, these were the pass rates for both DSSTs last year:

Soviet Union DSST (Civilian): 58 Passes, 4 Fails, 62 Test Takers, 93.55% Pass Rate
Soviet Union DSST (Military): 51 Passes, 18 Fails, 69 Test Takers, 73.91% Pass Rate

Vietnam War DSST (Civilian): 210 Passes, 33 Fails, 243 Test Takers, 86.42% Pass Rate
Vietnam War DSST (Military): 192 Passes, 287 Fails, 479 Test Takers, 40.08% Pass Rate

Either way, with about a week or so of study, you should be fine to pass either one. Good luck!

I took both this week. For me, Vietnam is the way to go. USSR had too many names that are not easy to memorize and the questions get deep into the weeds. However, both can be done.
