Proficiency Credit Options?
#1
Have anyone explored Proficiency Credit testing options available at Community Colleges?

I am in the process of helping my oldest secure some additional credits before they head off to B&M college in the fall. In speaking with my local test center guru they explained that CC classes with "Proficiency Available" work exactly like CLEP/DSST. Take a instructor approved test and pass you get CR for the class without a grade and it can be transferred. Most of the tests are 70% min. passing but that is what I dealt with taking ALEKS, Straighterline, and TECEPs.

If I could do it again I would go this route for costs reasons among others.

Cost of test = $15 plus $5 per credit = $30 total for 3 credits. Text book from course syllabus should be same cost as buying for Straighterline or TECEP.
School Enrollment was free and this is where I had my CLEP/DSSTs sent originally.

Total cost much cheaper than the options I took.

Classes/tests I could have done this way: Managerial Accounting, Advertising, Marketing, .....

I also noticed this option in several other areas that might help those looking for testing options not available in CLEP/DSST.

Psychology options included Child and Abnormal psychology which are not available in CLEP/DSST and might help towards a Psychology degree. Again if buying a book for an online class is required this may be another option for quicker and cheaper self-paced credit. Prerequisites for the classes mentioned were ACC101, PYS101, BUS101 which were all covered by CLEP credit.

There are many other class options. I'm not sure if this has been discussed before so I thought I would throw it out there.

Yeah, a lot of colleges offer challenge exams. Normally, you have to ask the department chairs about them. There is an ECE and I think a TECEP for Abnormal Psychology, but I can't remember if the ECE is $95 or over $300.
