MIS + Info Sys & Comp Apps + Intro to Comp = Overlap?
#1
Can anyone familiar with Excelsior please clarify:
Into to Computers + MIS + Info Systems and Computer Apps = overlap?

I was enrolled at one time in Excelsior's BS-Business program but I don't plan to re-enroll until I have completed all of the courses in the outline I crafted through my advisement. I am nearly at that point now, but I want to add MIS to my existing Intro to Computers and IS&CA. Since I am not enrolled I cannot lean on the academic advisors to get the answer I'm looking for. Thanks in advance to anyone who knows the lay of the land.

Best,

Edit - Sorry, I didn't understand your question and wrote a response answering a question you never asked. That's embarrassing. I didn't go to Excelsior, but Thomas Edison let me use MIS in my major because it's upper-level credit.

I can't speak for the business degree, but I am able to use all three exams for credit in the liberal arts degree program at Exclesior.

Jaba, I am also going for the EC BS Business degree program, so I can help you there.

The DSST Intro to Computing and CLEP IS both satisfy the business core Computers requirement. Since you took both, one will count towards your core requirement and the other probably either the arts and sciences or electives.

The DSST MIS fulfills the upper level advanced requirement (EC requires at least 12 credits of advanced-level business credit) which will give you 3 credits in that category. You should still take the DSST MIS if you need to fulfill advanced level credit.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Dharmachic!

I was thinking that was probably the case but the reinforcement is very helpful.
