Difference between Guided Study and Online Capstone
#1
What are the difference? I am trying to figure what to expect for LIB-495

Any experiences with the LIB capstone? I found a good bit of business capstone feedback...

Guided study courses omit the blog posts, and replace them with extra written assignments. I personally recommend the online version as the blog posts take almost no time to do and give you an easy A on 23% of the course. Some people seem to REALLY hate the idea of the blog posts and go with guided study. There are a couple of long threads on LIB-495 experiences. I recommend researching the prof on ratemyprofessor.com and Google before picking a section. Apparently some profs have been known to be sticklers about what subjects they'll allow and others don't provide an example paper. I had Dr James Cody and liked him a lot. He was pretty liberal with approving topics, was thorough and specific in marking the draft chapters, and had a good example paper.

Online = forum discussions in each module that count for 23% of your grade. Good deal if you don’t mind regularly interacting with other students.

Guided Study = no forum discussion posts and increases the % your final paper counts towards your grade. Still has biweekly deadlines for chapter/module assignments

The weekly forum interaction was a little involved for me.

They wanted you to discuss what you were doing at various points, then critique others. I don't know how much my mentor/teacher/whatever monitored the discussions past looking at the screen where it showed you had posted something.

Totally manageable most days. Bit of a struggle others.

I have to register for the capstone this week in order to get into the May term and have a shot at graduating in September. The term runs from April 30 - July 22.

I spoke with academic advising this morning to confirm this. When I went to register the Online was full. The only option is the Guided Study.

Does anyone know if they make exceptions to add more people to the online class?

If not, can anyone breakdown the guided study in terms of the amount of writing they had to do?

Finally, this is my first actual class with TESU.  Can someone tell me how the testing works?  I use study.com and do the proctored exams right in my house with a webcam.  Is it the same or will I have to go somewhere?

Thanks

Gloddy

Call them and ask, also ask if they will waive the late registration fee if applicable. I am in Dr Hansen's class if you see that open for the BALS LIB495.

Advising Expressline (609) 777-5680. Mon-Fri 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. (EST).

The LIB495 is the capstone for the BA degrees.   Gloddy - you're correct you need the BUS421 as you're enrolled in a BSBA.

I took the Business Capstone with Himelstein as Guided Study.

The only difference between the Online and GS is the discussion questions.  Instead of posting and responding to posts, you actually have to write a short paper for the discussion.  It wasn't terrible.

My advice:

1) Set up the Course calendar page to make sure that you hit all your deadlines.

2) Keep up with the weekly reading and writing.  Don't wait until the last minute to complete things, set aside time early in the week to do the reading, then write the papers soon afterwards.  You can even get a little ahead and it not be a problem.

3) Start early on the final paper.  It took me a while to even figure out what I wanted to write it on, and that was a waste of time.  Just pick one of the topics and get to work.

The midterm was taken at home through ProctorU.  Schedule it in advance and be prepared.

I'm including my syllabus so you can see what it entails.

Also, for my Case Studies, they were all 4 pages (except 1 was 3 pages), and I got 100% on all of them.  I obviously figured those out.  For my discussion questions, they were all 1 pages (except 1 was 4 pages), and I got 85% on 2, 88% on one, and 100% on one (and it wasn't the 4 page one).  I'm not certain what I did wrong on those, but I didn't care so much because they counted for a small percentage of the grade.  If I would have been able to figure those out, I'd have got A's on them too.  Oh well.

Thanks for this.  38 page Syllabus?  Wow!  Consider me a little nervous.  Not quite the same as study.com Confused

I am going to see if I can get into the online tomorrow. I am waiting for the school to add my study.com affiliation as well. I need the discount.
