Degree plan of BABA Marketing concentration looking for advices
#1
Hi, Guys

I'm Eleanor from China because I'm not very familiar with the American education system. I have many questions to ask...
The program is based on @Ashkir's 6-month degree program. I really appreciate Ashkir answering some of my questions on Discord.

I have attached my plan, any ideas on the plan are welcomed

Can any UMPI course be replaced by SDC, SPA or ICC?
CHI 101 - Introduction to Chinese I (General Education Credit)
CHI 102 - Introduction to Chinese II (General Credits)
BUS 219: Product Development
BUS 261: Marketing Research and Analysis
BUS 334: Advertising, Public Relations

BUS 337: Integrated Marketing Communications

BUS 430: Global Marketing
BUS 433: E-Commerce and Social Media Marketing
BUS 325 Financial Management
BUS 440 Business Analysis
BUS 469 Strategic Professional Management

MAT 140 Business Mathematics

I would like to reduce the crouse on UMPI to only 10 courses with a maximum transferable of 90 credits. And hope I can get my degree in 2 semesters 4 months. I hope I can start the course on 14/03/2022 before completing all credits in SPA.SDC and ICC.

another question ..
  • I have an associate degree in international trade in China and about 5 years of working experience in international trade marketing. I would like to know how many credits can I transfer? How to get UMPI to evaluate it.

PS: I have tried contacting YourPace Admissions Specialists on the website blue box "Need More Information?" Many days ago...I didn't get any response from them...

Thanks for all of you who read this post, and appreciate any suggestionsWink)

The "Admissions Specialists" are SALESPEOPLE. They don't know what they're talking about half the time. It's unfortunate, because the school is otherwise pretty awesome.

For Chinese, you can take an ACTFL exam. https://www.languagetesting.com/certific...nformation Mandarin and Cantonese both have a speaking test for $165USD each.

UMPI will not evaluate this directly. You will need to send it to a service like https://www.wes.org/ for them to evaluate and send to UMPI. This is the only way to find out how many credits the degree is worth.

Hey, I see you created a new thread! I also agree with Rachel83Az, do take the external evaluations from any of these agencies: https://www.naces.org/ | WES is a good one, I usually recommend them or ECE (which is also one of the most recommended here as well). BTW, you can only get a few of those courses completed using Study.com, such as E-Commerce, Global Marketing, Business Math. And yes, take what you can before you start at UMPI, they will require the bulk of the Upper Level requirements for the major and the 30 credits for residency.

hi!Rachel. Thank you so much for your reply !!
Yeah, You are right... They are salespeople and they replied to the email said "Our State Operating Authority limits us to the United States."
If in this case, Is that means Internation student cant apply the major?

Is ACTEL exam can be replace the Chinese inventory  I and II in UMPI ?  May these 2 courses  for me is easy on UMPI.

And yes , I have apply the WES to evaluate about 2 weeks ago , It will be finished on 20,Jan. But I didnt saw any detail about how WES send the information to university evaluate.  Do you know they send by electronic version or I have to ask them send the paper by mail to UMPI?

Hey! Thank you for your reply.

I have applied for external evaluations from WES two weeks ago...
about the courses you mentioned above, I checked from the study.com links

https://study.com/college/school/umpi.html#course-guide

but It couldn’t found these kind of courses here like E-Commerce, Global Marketing, Business Math. Is the searching way I tried wrong?

@eleanorliu6, no, searching is fine, those courses come in as business elective courses as per the transfer guide you have linked to.  It also shows the same for the documents or transfer guide people see when they sign into their online portal at UMPI.  If you read between the lines, the courses offered at Study.com has a very similar name, but in the equivalency column, they're all "elective" and some are specific courses.  If I had to hazard a guess, these courses mentioned will fit the requirements for the degree... This is an instance of them not knowing what they're talking about. International students CAN apply to UMPI. We've had several international students already go through UMPI from the forum here. You're fine. The salespeople dont know anything. Big Grin

The problem with this is that UMPI does NOT offer Chinese in its YourPace program. I'm not even sure if they offer it in their on-campus catalog. Maybe they do? The only languages they offer in YourPace are French or Spanish.

I'm not sure. I think they will send it electronically but they give you that information once the evaluation is complete. This may be because some degrees or diplomas from certain countries may get evaluated as not being worth any credit, so they give the student a chance to decide whether it's worth sending the evaluation report to the school.

Some courses cannot be taken anywhere except for UMPI. That applies to almost everything on your list.

Per the attachment that bjcheung77 linked to, Business Math is listed as "Mathematics for Business" and that would be Business 110 at Study.com.
Global Marketing is listed as transferring in as a "3XX" course, so I don't think that would meet requirements. E-Commerce is a "1XX" course and wouldn't meet requirements either.

There's only 1 class on Study.com that comes in for the Marketing Concentration. It's Business 309. I honestly wouldn't take that class on Study.com because at UMPI this class has an exam for the Final Assessment.

https://study.com/college/school/umpi.html

The Marketing Concentration doesn't have any equivalencies outside of UMPI except BUS330. And like I said this is an easy course with an exam so taking it elsewhere doesn't really save any time. You also need to complete the majority of the UL courses in the Core and Concentration at UMPI along with at least 30 credits.

I will also add that unless you are very proficient with English, this concentration will be challenging. There are many papers and several PowerPOint presentations with audio recorded. You must conduct a research survey then write a paper and give a presentation on your findings. There's only 1 exam in the concentration and that's BUS330.

If English isn't your first language, you'll need to submit your TOEFL scores to UMPI as well. All international transcripts must be processed through WES also.
